Glentoran Women secured a vital three points in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership on Wednesday night with a 2–1 victory over Lisburn Rangers at Crewe Park, keeping the Glens two points clear at the top of the table.
On her first return to her former club, Northern Ireland U19 international Faye Loughran delivered the decisive moment, doubling Glentoran’s advantage just four minutes after the restart to ultimately seal the win.
After a tightly contested first half, the breakthrough came deep into stoppage time when Emily Wilson’s pinpoint cross picked out captain Jessica Foy, who calmly converted to give the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Loughran then came back to haunt her old side shortly after the interval, reacting quickest to a dangerous set piece at the back post to make it 2–0 and put Glentoran firmly in control.
Lisburn Rangers battled gamely and pulled a goal back late on through Gracie Conway in the 85th minute, but the Glens held firm to claim a huge away win in the title race.
The result extends Glentoran’s unbeaten league run to eight matches and ensures they remain in top spot heading into the decisive final weeks of the campaign.
