Glentoran Football Club has announced that goalkeeper Lorcan Donnelly has joined NIFL Championship side Newry City on loan for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
The highly promising 18-year-old makes the move to The Newry Showgrounds after an impressive first half of the season on loan at Lisburn Distillery in the NIFL Premier Intermediate League, where he made 12 appearances across all competitions.
A Northern Ireland Men’s Under-17 and Under-16 international, Lorcan is a product of Glentoran’s prestigious Academy and Scholarship programme.
He made his first-team debut for Glentoran during the 2023-24 season, coming on as a substitute in a Sports Direct Premiership fixture against Coleraine.
Commenting on the loan move, Elliott Morris, Glentoran Goalkeeper Coach said: “This is the perfect next step for Lorcan’s development. His time at Lisburn Distillery provided him with an excellent introduction to senior men’s football, and now this move to Newry City will see him face an even higher standard of opposition.
“We’ve been closely tracking Lorcan’s progress this season, and his development has been outstanding. This loan presents the perfect opportunity for him to continue that upward trajectory, and we’re excited to welcome him back for pre-season training as an even more accomplished goalkeeper.”
