Linfield Ladies 1-2 Glentoran Women

Sat, 27/07/2024 - 00:02

After a 3-week break from league action, defending champions Glentoran remain top of the table following a dramatic conclusion to their clash with Linfield Women at Midgley Park.

It was a different looking line up to that of 3 weeks ago v Cliftonville as player departures and an injury to Emma McMaster gave starting opportunities to Sofie Keenan, Aimee Kerr and Kascie Weir. New signings Kelly Crompton and Ellie Butler started on the bench.

Scoreless at the break, it was summer signing Kerr who fired the Glens in front following a great team move midway through the second half and it was a lead they held until two minutes into stoppage time when Alexandra Clarke levelled for the Blues.

But, just when it looked like the game would end all square, up popped substitute Jenna McKearney in the 94th minute to restore Glentoran's lead and claim what could prove to be a very valuable three points.

We sit top of the league on equal points to Cliftonville, but the Reds have a game in hand. Next up is another tough one next Friday (2nd August) when the squad travel to Seaview to face Crusaders Strikers.

Glentoran Women: Ashleigh McKinnon, Sarah Tweedie, Jess Foy (c), Sofie Keenan, Aimee Neal, Nadene Caldwell, Chloe McCarron, Demi Vance, Aimee Kerr, Kascie Weir and Emily Wilson.

Subs: Kelly Bailie, Megan Neill, Rachel McIntyre, Jenna McKearney (for Keenan 85), Rachel Rogan (for Weir 72), Kelly Crompton, Ellie Butler
