Aimee Kerr has set her sights on Big Two glory and maintaining Glentoran’s 100% start to the season when they face Linfield Ladies in the Boyle Sports Women’s Cup at the Blanchflower Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 5pm).

After three games on the road the Glens take on their derby rivals in their first home game of the season looking to pick up another win to boost their hopes of progressing into the latter stages of the competition.

Kim Turner’s side made it two wins from two on Wednesday night thanks to a 4-1 victory over Crusaders at Seaview and Kerr wants to carry that momentum into the meeting with the Blues.

“We have had a good start to the season with two wins in the Boyle Sports Women’s Cup and victory over Bohemians in the All-Island Cup,” said Kerr.

“It was important for us to get off to a good start and really we couldn’t have asked for more especially as all three games have been away from home.

“But we know it’s only a start, we have to keep building on it and this Sunday’s game against Linfield is a very important one for obvious reasons.

“Not only is it our first home game of the new campaign but it’s also a Big Two derby, which carries its own significance.

“The most important thing for us though is to win the game because it is important for us to progress in this competition and that’s what we will be setting out to do at the Blanchflower Stadium.

“We have built up some good momentum now with our opening three games and we have to harness that going into Sunday to make sure that we come out on the right side of the result.”

As well as being a derby, Glentoran will face a Linfield side which has also had a good start to the season having won both games in the Boyle Sports Women’s Cup so far scoring 11 goals in the process against the Crues and Lisburn Ladies.

“We know it’s going to be a tough test for us that’s for sure,” said the Glentoran teenage star.

“We are under no illusions that we will need to be at our best to get a result on Sunday as well as making sure we continue to work hard as well.

“The mood is good though and we are determined to keep that going with another positive result.”

It’s been a good few weeks for Kerr given her club form and involvement with the Northern Ireland senior squad.

Kerr came off the bench in the recent wins over Malta and she enjoyed every minute of it.

“It’s always a pleasure to be involved in the Northern Ireland set-up and it’s something I would never take for granted,” said Kerr.

“I have been fortunate to have been involved in the squad since my first call-up last year and it’s a fantastic experience.

“There’s a great mix of players from the Irish League as well as players from England and Scotland and for me it’s a great experience to sample that and I have learned so much in a short space of time.

“I’m so thankful to Glentoran for giving me the platform at club level to get recognition at international level.

“That pathway has been key for so many players down the years and I have no doubt it will continue.

“I’m grateful for every opportunity I get at international level and I’m focused on making the most of every chance I’m given.”
