Glentoran defender and Academy graduate Jonny Russell has been named in the Northern Ireland U21 squad for the opening game of the 2025–27 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign. Tommy Wright’s side begin their campaign against Georgia U21s on Tuesday 9th September 2025.
Russell made his Northern Ireland U21 debut in March 2024 in a 2–1 victory over Serbia before coming off the bench in a 0–0 draw with England. Earlier this year, he was also included in the squad that travelled to Antalya, Turkey, for a mini-tournament against Ukraine U20s, Uzbekistan U21s and Turkmenistan U21s as preparation for the European qualifiers.
He is joined in the squad by fellow Glentoran Academy graduate Francis Turley, who now plays his club football with Celtic.
