Jordan Jenkins says Glentoran’s players have taken responsibility for improving results after his double secured a 2-0 win over Carrick Rangers at The BetMcLean Oval.
The forward followed his late winner at Cliftonville with two first-half goals on Saturday as the Glens claimed back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
“We needed to build on the result last week,” Jenkins said. “That’s probably what we needed, a bit of momentum. We got the result today and kept a clean sheet, which we haven’t been doing recently.”
Jenkins opened the scoring after eight minutes, meeting Daniel Larmour’s flick-on from Ryan Cooney’s long throw. His second came in the 26th minute, when Ross Clarke’s run created the opening for him to curl a shot into the top corner.
“The first one fell to me nicely and I could tap it in,” he said. “For the second, Clarkey did well driving inside and laid it off to me. I was able to curl it into the top corner.
“That’s what I want to be doing, scoring goals every week. I’ve scored in the last three now, so I just want to keep building on that.”
Carrick created chances after the break, but Glentoran held firm for a clean sheet that Jenkins believes can give the side a platform.
“If we keep clean sheets, we know we’re going to score goals,” he said. “We’ve got players who can score from anywhere. It’s about everyone working together and working as hard as they can to keep the ball out of the net.”
Jenkins also spoke about how the squad has responded during a period of change at the Club.
“The results weren’t going our way, and that’s probably down to us as well,” he said. “We’ve had to stick together, pull together and work a wee bit harder.
“You could see everyone fighting to keep that clean sheet. That’s what we want to keep doing.”
Glentoran host Dungannon Swifts next Saturday, with Jenkins focused on maintaining the momentum.
“Dungannon always give us a good game,” he added. “We’ll come in, prepare next week and get ready for it.”
