Jay Donnelly joins Newington on loan

Mon, 03/02/2025 - 15:45

Glentoran Football Club can confirm that Jay Donnelly has joined NIFL Championship side Newington on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The 29-year-old forward, who signed for Glentoran in September 2020, has been a key player for the club over the past four seasons, making 179 appearances and scoring 78 goals.

The temporary move provides Donnelly with the opportunity to play regular first-team football and regain his best form for the remainder of the campaign.

Glentoran First Team Manager Declan Devine said: "Jay has been an important player for Glentoran, but with Jordan Jenkins in excellent form, the arrival of Nathaniel Ferris, and the strong performances of David Fisher, Dylan Connolly and Christie Pattison in attacking areas, his opportunities for game time were becoming increasingly limited.

"With that in mind, we felt the best decision was to facilitate a loan move that allows him to play regularly and regain his sharpness in a competitive environment. We know the quality Jay possesses and this loan provides him with the platform to rebuild momentum with consistent game time. We have no doubt he will make a real impact at Newington and we wish him all the best for the remainder of the season."
