Hoban on target but Glens held by Bangor

Glentoran were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw at Clandeboye Park as Bangor’s second-half opener was cancelled out by Pat Hoban in a tight Sports Direct Premiership encounter.

A superb long-range finish from Tiarnan Mulvenna gave the home side the advantage midway through the second half, but the Glens responded quickly, with Hoban’s well-taken volley secured a point for Declan Devine’s side.

Glentoran created the first meaningful opportunity when Jordan Stewart drifted infield and found David Fisher at the back post, but the striker’s effort was held by Patrick Solis Grogan.

The Glens lost Josh Kelly to injury early on, with Ryan Cooney introduced from the bench. Stewart then forced the Bangor goalkeeper into action again with a low strike that was pushed behind for a corner.

Bangor threatened on 10 minutes when a long Reece Neale throw was flicked into the path of Ross Arthurs, but Andrew Mills reacted sharply to save at close range.

Glentoran responded immediately, working the ball upfield, and from Stewart’s resulting corner James Singleton glanced a header narrowly wide.

After the break, Glentoran gained momentum, with Danny Amos’ set-piece deliveries and Stewart’s movement giving Bangor problems. Joe Thomson also went close at the near post following a quick counter-attack down the left.

Despite the Glens’ pressure, Bangor took the lead on 70 minutes. Solis Grogan’s clearance dropped to Mulvenna, who controlled well before sending a dipping 25-yard strike over Mills and into the top corner.

Glentoran reacted strongly and were level eight minutes later. Stewart released Cooney on the right with an excellent diagonal pass and the full-back delivered a first-time cross that Hoban volleyed home from close range.

Bangor almost regained the lead soon after when Arthurs met a Mulvenna delivery with a powerful header, but Mills produced a superb reflex save. Hoban then went close at the other end, sending one effort just wide and glancing a late Amos free-kick past the post.

Despite finishing strongly, the Glens were unable to find a winning goal and now turn their attention to a busy run of fixtures in December, starting with a BetMcLean Cup Quarter-Final tie against Cliftonville at the BetMcLean oval on Tuesday 2nd December 2025.
