A brace apiece from Pat Hoban and Jordan Stewart got Glentoran back to winning ways in style with a 4-0 victory over Cliftonville.
The Glens dominated proceedings but had to wait until after the hour mark for Hoban to put them in front from the penalty spot.
Stewart came off the bench to bag a double on 70 and 75 minutes before Hoban’s 19th of the season in stoppage time sealed an impressive win.
Declan Devine made three changes following Saturday night’s narrow defeat with Hoban returning from suspension alongside Marcus Kane and MJ Kamson-Kamara with Daniel Larmour, Jordan Stewart and Jordan Jenkins all dropping out.
The visitors carved out the first opening with only four minutes on the clock as James Singleton got on the end of Ryan Cooney’s long throw, but his looping header was gathered by Lewis Ridd.
The Reds stopper was called into action again on 12 minutes as he pushed away a spectacular first-time effort from Cooney after the ball came back to the defender from a long throw.
Glentoran went close again seven minutes later as Kamson-Kamara got on the end of Danny Amos’ cross, but the defender couldn’t direct his header on goal.
As we moved towards the half hour mark Hoban outmuscled Shaun Leppard to get in on goal, but Ridd produced a good block to deny the striker.
Aaron McEneff then flashed a free-kick narrowly wide before Mills did well to deny Shaun Leppard at the other end.
Amos was twice denied by Ridd in quick succession as the Reds’ keeper produced two good saves to deny the full-back before half-time.
The visitors kept the pressure on at the start of the second half with Ridd producing an excellent save clawing away Ross Clarke’s superb shot.
The breakthrough finally came in the 62nd minute as Hoban kept his cool firing past Ridd from the penalty spot after Joe Sheridan had been penalised for a foul in the area.
Clarke and McEneff were then denied by Ridd as the Glens continued to ramp up the pressure.
The second goal finally arrived with 20 minutes to go as second half substitute Stewart flicked home Kamson-Kamara’s header.
Five minutes later Stewart curled home a delightful third to all but wrap up the points.
Glentoran came close to a fourth on 82 minutes as Singleton got on the end of Cooney’s corner, but his header was straight at Ridd.
They weren’t to be denied though as Hoban completed his brace before the full-time whistle with the striker taking advantage of a defensive mistake by Cliftonville to round off a great night for the Glens.
