Her Majesty The Queen: Club Statement

Fri, 09/09/2022 - 21:21

Statement by the Board of Directors:

As the Board of Directors of Glentoran Football Club, we would like to formally offer condolences and pay tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, on behalf of the club and members of the Glentoran Family

Her Majesty ascended to the throne just seven years after the end of the Second World War and just three years after Glentoran returned to the rebuilt Oval. In the seventy years since her ascendance, she has led our nation through decades of unprecedented change and devoted her life to the service of the nation and the Commonwealth.

During her reign, Her Majesty made regular visits to Northern Ireland, including a number of visits to East Belfast where among other events she launched a ship at Harland & Wolff (photo above), opened the Flyover at Bridgend and visited the East Belfast Mission in the heart of the Newtownards Road (photo below). The people of East Belfast were always happy to welcome our monarch to our small corner of her domain.

We would also like to extend our warmest wishes to King Charles lll and to wish him a long and happy reign.
