Hat Trick for Elliott

Mon, 04/12/2017 - 21:58

(Elliott in November with Goalkeeper Coach, Davy McClelland)

Elliott Morris has won the Glentoran Supporters Player of the Month award for the third successive month. Despite our poor form in November, Elliott – who made his 670th first team appearance for the club at Seaview on Saturday, leaving him now just 120 appearances behind club record appearance holder Colin Nixon – pulled off save after save throughout the month, not least in our win at Warrenpoint. He won 59% of the vote to win by a landslide.

Gary Haveron said at the weekend:” Managers sign players for the quality and potential they see in them. But the main reason for longevity at this level and certainly at a club like Glentoran is consistency. Elliott possesses not only the quality, but the level of consistency in everything he does has been exemplary. He trains as hard now if not harder than as he did 15 years ago when he first signed for the club. How he looks after his body and prepares for games makes him a fantastic role model for any young player looking to have a long career. Having watched him and  spoken to him more recently I genuinely believe that as long as he stays clear of serious injury their is no reason why Ells can’t continue to be the Glentoran Number 1 for another for four or five years -  and become Glentoran’s record appearance holder. He really is one of a kind and I want to congratulate him yet again for setting standards and being the model of consistency.”

Elliott himself said on being told of his third consecutive win: “I’m proud to have won this supporters’ award again. It’s great to win any vote by the supporters. I feel I’m in good form at the minute and I’m also in the process of sorting out a new contract with the club which I’m delighted about.”

Dylan Davidson was runner up in the poll with 18% of the total vote. A great achievement by Dylan who started three matches in November as he re-established himself in the team after recovering from his shoulder injury.
