On Saturday 12 October before the Sports Direct Premiership match with Dungannon Swifts, the officers and members of the Stormont Glentoran Supporters Club convened in the hospitality suite at the Bet McLean Oval to celebrate the 40th Birthday of their club.
Stormont GSC was founded in 1984 with its early meetings held in the Stormont Hotel. Club members club decided there was no better place to celebrate our 40th than at the Oval on matchday. A fantastic day was had by all and most importantly three points were won on the pitch.
A number of speeches including one in remembrance of four club members who have passed away down the decades and special word of thanks to the on-site St John's ambulance crew who assisted a club member who took a little unwell in the second half. Happy to report he was able to attend the Carrick game last Saturday. The club was welcomed by Glentoran Chairman Colin Jess who brieflyattended along with recently appointed CEO Tony Webster.
Two Stormont founding members Stephen Reid and Mark Wilson were acknowledged with a memento from club chairman David Johnston and John Taylor.
Past Chairman Girvan Wiltshire presented current Chairman David Johnston with a gift from the club in proud recognition of his MBE awarded in the most recent King’s honours list.
