Great Charity Work by young Glenman Jay

Fri, 12/02/2021 - 18:45

9-year-old Glentoran 2011s academy player Jay Fisher took on a huge challenge over the lockdown period as he put his keepy up skills to the test to raise money for a worthy charity, CLIC CLIC SARGENT.

Jay, a sporty boy by nature, usually loves playing football, futsal, rugby and boxing in his spare time. But he didn't quite know what to do with himself when lockdown struck, and he was unable to do all the things that once would have kept him occupied on most days of the week!

With nothing to do but practise his keepy ups he was soon getting over 1500, which is when he first heard of the CLIC SARGENT challenge 'Race to the North Pole'.

CLIC SARGENT were asking adults and children alike to take up the challenge and run, walk or cycle the equivalent of the 2700 miles it is from the UK to the North Pole.

Jay, not one to shy away from a challenge,  decided he would add his own twist and committed himself to completing 2700 keepy ups come rain, hail or shine to raise much needed funds for the charity.

What started as just something to do, to pass the time and 'keeping up' his skills, turned into a mammoth session of completing 2700 keepy ups raising over £1200 for charity in the process with support from his teammates and clubs along the way.

For those of you who haven’t heard of CLIC SARGENT, they are a charity that fights tirelessly to stop cancer destroying young lives, by providing grants and free accommodation close to hospitals for families to help with spiralling costs.

Their care teams are on hand to help families with everything from getting benefits to treatment, and their aim is to make sure young cancer patients can focus on getting their lives back on track.

More information on the charity can be found at https://www.clicsargent.org.uk/

Well done Jay we are all super proud of you!
