Glentoran Women: Kascie hits Northern Ireland’s winner

Wed 9 Apr 2025, 22:03

Congratulations to Glentoran Women player Kascie Weir who scored the only goal in Northern Ireland’s win over Romania in in a UEFA Women’s Nations League game in Belfast tonight.
18-year-old Kascie struck after 19 minutes in what was only her third appearance for the national team. Also in the starting lineup was her Glens team mate Nadene Caldwell while her other fellow Glens Emily Wilson and Aimee Kerr were unused subs. Glens and Northern Ireland regular Chloe McCarron was injured with the Northern Ireland squad earlier in the month so missed out.
Many players synonymous with Glentoran’s phenomenal success in recent years were in the winning side. Caragh Hamilton captained the team in her 50th international while Joely Andrews and Jackie Burns also started. Lauren Wade and Danielle Maxwell came on as second half substitutes.
The result means Northern Ireland stay in second place in B1 with seven points from four games. Poland are top with 10 points after they drew 1-1 with third-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina (four points) in Zenica tonight. Romania remain rooted to the bottom with a single point.
Northern Ireland’s final games in the group are at home to Poland on Friday 30 May and away to the Bosnians on Tuesday 3 June.
Well done Kascie, Dino and the rest of the squad.

Kascie (back left) and Dino (back second left) with the rest of last night’s starting lineup.
