Glentoran Women strengthened their position at the top of the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership with an impressive 6-2 win over Linfield at Midgley Park on Monday night.
The Glens made a fast start and were 3-0 up inside half an hour. Nadene Caldwell opened the scoring with a header from a Demi Vance corner, before a second arrived when Hannah Doherty turned a dangerous cross into her own net. Kascie Weir added a third.
Linfield responded well and when Cora Chambers pulled one back before the break. Early in the second half, Eve Reilly’s finish reduced the deficit to 3-2.
But Glentoran reasserted control. Vance made it 4-2 with a well-struck free kick before scoring directly from a corner to restore a three-goal cushion. Mia Moore rounded off the scoring with a close-range finish to seal the win.
The result moves Glentoran three points clear at the top of the table as their unbeaten run continues.
