Glentoran Women’s All-Island Cup campaign came to an end on Saturday evening as Shelbourne secured a 6-1 victory at Blanchflower Stadium, with the Glens narrowly missing out on progression from the group stage on goal difference.
In front of a lively atmosphere featuring strong support from both sets of fans, the visitors made an early breakthrough when Rachel Watkins found the top corner inside the opening minutes.
The Glens responded immediately. A positive attacking move saw Gracie Conway fire home just two minutes later to level the scores at 1-1 and spark celebrations among the home support.
Shelbourne regained the lead on 17 minutes through Anna Kavanagh before extending their advantage shortly before the break when Hannah Harcourt added a third to leave the visitors 3-1 ahead at half-time.
Kim Turner’s side continued to battle after the restart and came close to reducing the deficit when Mia Moore’s effort crashed back off the post.
However, Shelbourne continued to show their attacking quality, with Harcourt adding her second of the afternoon before Louise Doyle and Watkins completed the scoring.
Despite the result, the Glens continued to compete until the final whistle against one of the strongest sides in the competition. T
he defeat brings their All-Island Cup journey to an end, with attention now turning back to domestic action as Turner and her squad look to build on a promising season.
