Glentoran Women 4-0 Linfield Ladies

Sun, 16/10/2022 - 00:12

Glens had the bulk of the attacking play in an otherwise fairly even first half, though there were few real goalscoring opportunities for either team.

Joely Andrews opened the scoring on fourteen minutes when bravely faced down the keeper by rising to head home. The Glens’ other best effort came just on the break when a long range Caragh Hamilton effort went just wide.

Glens stretched the lead on 49 minutes when the legendary Kelly Bailie hit an incredible long range free kick past ex-Glens keeper Lauren Currie in the Linfield goal, giving her no chance.

Our third came 10 minutes later when Rachel Rogan played a through ball to Caragh Hamilton. Caragh then used pace, strength and skill to effortlessly breeze through the Linfield defence before finishing cleanly and comfortable.

The final Glens goal came on 87 when Nadene Caldwell rose above a packed six-yard box to head home a Jess Foy free kick.

Glentoran Women and Sion Swifts Ladies will contest the Electric Ireland Women's Challenge Cup final on November 5th at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park.
