Glentoran Women 3–0 Lisburn Rangers Ladies

Sun, 22/09/2024 - 23:45

After a tentative start Glentoran Women got back to winning ways at Blanchflower this afternoon in this Sports Direct Women’s Premiership game.

Nadene Caldwell and Emma McMaster remain unavailable through injury but Annie Timoney and Emily Wilson returned to the starting line-up, as did Kascie Weir for Kelly Crompton who was a late injury call off.

The Glens were stuck on 28 minutes when Sofie Keenan had to leave the field after an injury, She was replaced by Jenna McKearney, 10 minutes later skipper Jess Foy played a real captain’s role, opening the scoring with a fine individual effort. That’s how it stayed until the break.

Foy was again the scorer when the lead was doubled 10 minutes after the restart. This time rebounded to Jess inside the Lisburn box and she volleyed home for her seventh goal of the season.

Fellow full back Sarah Tweedie made the game safe on 64 minutes, getting the decisive touch in a scramble on the Lisburn goal line.

With 4 league games left, the Glens sit 3 points behind Cliftonville at the top of the table despite having won 11 out of 12 games. That effectively means we need maximum points for the rest of the campaign if the league title is to be retained. Next up is a visit to Inver Park to play Larne Women this Friday (27th September) at 7.45pm.

Glentoran Women: Ashleigh McKinnon, Sarah Tweedie, Jess Foy (c), Annie Timoney, Sofie Keenan, Chloe McCarron, Aimee Kerr, Demi Vance, Kascie Weir, Emily Wilson and Rachel Rogan

Subs: Aimee Neal, Kelly Bailie (for Kerr 76), Ellie Butler (for Rogan 62), Rachel McIntyre (for Tweedie 76), Jenna McKearney (for Keenan 27).
