Glentoran Women’s extraordinary run of trophy successes continued with this County Antrim Cup Final win at Blanchflower this evening.
After an edgy first half hour between these 2 great rivals, the Glens took the lead on 30 minutes when a Demi Vance free kick was headed back from the far post to Rachel Rogan who nodded home her 15th goal of the season,
The Glens dominated from that point and Chloe McCarron deservedly doubled the lead when pounced on a defensive header to confidently fire home from inside the Reds box with 20 minutes to go.
There was a slightly hairy moment when Kirsty McGuinness pulled one back for Cliftonville in injury time but the Glens held out to win this trophy for the fourth time in the past five years.
This was a big result as the Reds had defeated us twice so far this season but the mixture of experience and youth in this Glens squad, a squad that has lost 4 regular internationals to cross channel football in the past 2 seasons, was too strong on the night.
Congratulations to everyone involved, including those recent signings who have contributed strongly to winning their first silverware in Glentoran colours.
