Glentoran U20 2-0 Ballymena United U20

Wed, 28/08/2019 - 23:50

The Wee Glens  turned in a vastly improved performance this evening as they controlled this game virtually all night and racked up a total of 28 goal attempts as they looked to get back on track after two dissapointing performances.

The game was notable for Glentoran Academy starlet Ethan Warnock making his debut for Ballymena United and we wish him well in his career there.

On the other hand there were a couple of competitive u20 debuts for Glentoran with Jonny Russell, Elliott Wood, Shay Burns and Aaron Boyd making their competitive bows for the Glens off the bench.

Despite a couple of near misses and three good claims for a penalty in the first half the game was scoreless at the break with Duffy and Cushnie causing Ballymena lots of problems in the opening period.

Goalscorers Benji Magee and Charlie Lindsay

Benji Magee caused Ballymena a headache all night with his running and dribbling and his man of the match performance really deserved a goal but it was Matty Lusty with a cool finish who broke the deadlock in the game on 60 minutes before Charlie Lindsays wicked corner kick was deflected into the goal five minutes later for 2-0.

Glentoran, marshalled by Lewis McGarvey and the impressive Jake White kept things tight at the back for a first clean sheet of the season and will look to build on this performance over the coming weeks.
