More than 100 supporters, families and volunteers took part in a 5km sponsored walk at The BetMcLean Oval on Saturday, raising over £2,000 for Cash for Kids.
The event, organised by the Glentoran Social Partnership, brought people of all ages together to complete the walk around the East Belfast stadium in support of children and young people across Northern Ireland facing poverty, illness and hardship.
Participants were greeted and congratulated by members of the Glentoran first-team squad, who were at the ground preparing for Sunday’s BetMcLean Cup Final.
Cool FM also supported the event, with members of the station’s promotional team in attendance at The BetMcLean Oval to help create a lively atmosphere for participants while distributing spot prizes throughout the afternoon
Colin Jess, Chairman of Glentoran Football Club, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together at The BetMcLean Oval to support such an important cause. Events like this really show the strength of the Glentoran community and the willingness of our supporters, volunteers and families to step forward when it matters.
“Cash for Kids does incredible work supporting children and families who are facing very real challenges, and the funds raised through this walk will help them continue providing that vital support to those who need it most across Northern Ireland.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part, donated or helped organise the event. The generosity shown once again demonstrates what can be achieved when the Glentoran community pulls together for a cause that makes a genuine difference.”
The walk builds on the partnership between Glentoran and Cash for Kids. Through the Mission Christmas campaign, the club previously helped deliver more than 450 toy parcels to over 340 local children, supporting families experiencing financial hardship during the festive period.
Saturday’s event also forms part of the Social Partnership’s wider community programme. Since the reintroduction of its Meal Drive in October 2025, more than 1,500 hot meals have been delivered to vulnerable individuals and families across East Belfast.
The Glentoran Social Partnership engages more than 3,500 people each year and generates an estimated £2.9 million in annual social value, with its work recognised through Club Community Initiative of the Year at the 2025 NIFL Football Awards and the Community Impact Award at the 2024 EastSide Awards.
