The Glentoran Social Partnership has continued its commitment to supporting community wellbeing across East Belfast by funding a creative craft session for the newly formed Titanic Area Community Group.

The Over 50s Club, organised by Glentoran supporter Thomas Warnock, was established to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where people aged fifty and over can come together, make friends and stay active within the community.

Many people in this age group experience isolation following retirement or changes in family and health circumstances and the club offers a positive way to stay connected and engaged.

The craft session, funded by the Glentoran Social Partnership, encouraged members to take part in making Sweetie Wreaths and Sweetie Trees while enjoying conversation, laughter and teamwork throughout the event.

Colin Jess, Chairman of Glentoran, said: “We were delighted to support the Over 50s Club and help fund their craft session. It is a wonderful example of how community led projects can improve wellbeing and reduce loneliness by giving people the chance to come together

“Through the Glentoran Social Partnership, we are committed to supporting projects like this that make a real difference in people’s lives. From providing practical support to creating spaces for people to connect, we want to ensure that Glentoran continues to be a source of pride, care and togetherness for everyone in East Belfast and beyond.”

Thomas Warnock, organiser of the Titanic Area Community Group, said: “I started the Over 50s Club to create a space where people could come together, build friendships and feel part of something. Many people in this age group can feel isolated, so it is important to have somewhere they can meet, learn new things and enjoy each other’s company.

“Everyone really enjoyed the craft session. It was brilliant to see so many smiles and people connecting through something creative and thanks to the Glentoran Social Partnership for reaching out and funding the session.”

The Glentoran Social Partnership continues to support a wide range of community initiatives that deliver positive social impact throughout the year, helping to strengthen connections and improve lives across the local area.
