Glentoran Seconds’ lead at the top of the NIFL Premiership Development League was dented on Monday night as Coleraine Reserves ran out 4–1 winners at the Showgrounds.
The league leaders travelled to the North Coast sitting four points clear of Linfield Swifts on 61 points, with Milo Beimers returning in goal and captain Ciaran Rogers-Duffy once again leading the side.
Cal Weatherup and Jack Faloona dropped back into the Seconds following their senior involvement against Drumaness Mills in the Irish Cup, where Weatherup marked the occasion with his first senior goal.
A competitive but scrappy first half yielded few clear opportunities. The Glens worked diligently without finding rhythm in the final third, while Jamie McGonigle came closest for the hosts, seeing a free-kick crash back off the crossbar. The sides went in level at the interval with little to separate them.
The contest shifted decisively in the early stages of the second half. Coleraine struck twice in quick succession through Luke Fleming on 50 and 52 minutes, before Yoann Prigent added a third on 56 minutes to leave the visitors reeling.
Fleming completed his hat-trick on 74 minutes to extend the advantage further, and although Zak Magowan pulled one back with a composed finish three minutes from time, it proved no more than a consolation on a disappointing evening for the Glens.
Attention now turns to Monday 2nd March, when Glentoran Seconds will look to respond away to Cliftonville Olympic at Solitude.
