Glentoran Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former physio and lifelong supporter, George Magill.

A widely respected figure across Irish League football, George served Glentoran with distinction for many years, most notably under managers Tommy Jackson, Roy Coyle and Scott Young.

He was a key part of the club’s backroom staff during some of our most successful periods, including the iconic 1987/88 double-winning season. He retired in 2015, bringing to a close decades of service to the Glens.

George also served as physio for the Northern Ireland international team and Irish League representative sides and supported a number of other clubs throughout his career including Bangor, Ballymena United, Carrick Rangers, Larne and Portadown.

Colin Jess, Chairman of Glentoran paid tribute: “George was a gentleman and a hugely valued member of the Glentoran family. His contribution to this club, and to football in Northern Ireland, was immense. We send our sincere condolences to Dorothy and the wider Magill family at this very sad time.”

Everyone at Glentoran sends their heartfelt condolences to George’s family and friends as we remember a true club great.
