A very special edition of your multi-award-winning Glentoran Gazette awaits on Saturday as we mark the centenary of the birth of arguably the most famous player ever to wear the green, red and black – Danny Blanchflower.
We bring you the final instalment of Brian McClelland’s superb and meticulously researched series on one of the true greats of the game, while cover designer Beth Stafford has once again worked her magic, portraying Danny as he would have appeared during his time at The Oval. The 1923 Committee also pays tribute to the man who captained Northern Ireland to the quarter-finals of the 1958 World Cup.
Staying with the history theme, Eddy Patrick and Sam Robinson have unearthed two fascinating pieces of Glentoran memorabilia, while Henry Muldrew brings us firmly back to the present day with a thought-provoking piece on the increasing commodification of the modern game. Declan Devine also gives his take on events at Inver Park on Tuesday evening.
There is photo action from our recent games at Glenavon and Dungannon courtesy of Tommy Sewell and Pacemaker Press, the lowdown on visitors Ballymena United, the latest comings and goings in Around The Oval and, of course, all the stats.
With Premiership action returning, it’s a full-size edition of the Gazette for just £4.
As another Blanchflower might say – get them while they last.
