Glentoran Women’s hopes of retaining the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership title came to an end following a 3-2 defeat against Linfield Women at the Blanchflower Stadium.
Goals from Mia Moore and captain Jessica Foy were not enough for the Glens, who twice found themselves behind before a late Linfield penalty ultimately settled an eventful Big Two encounter.
Kim Turner’s side went into the opening game of the post-split fixtures knowing that only a victory would keep their title challenge alive.
Linfield made the brighter start and moved ahead after six minutes through Zoe McKnight, but the Glens produced an immediate response.
A delivery into the penalty area found Moore unmarked at the back post and she kept her composure to fire home the equaliser just four minutes later.
The sides remained level at the interval, but Linfield regained the lead four minutes after the restart when Zoe McGlynn found the net.
Turner reacted by introducing attacking duo Gracie Conway and Kascie Weir as the Glens looked to force their way back into the contest.
Glentoran continued to search for an equaliser, but their task became more difficult when Cora Chambers converted from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute to extend Linfield’s advantage.
The Glens refused to give in and Foy reduced the deficit with three minutes remaining, setting up a tense finish at the Blanchflower.
A third goal did not arrive, however, as Linfield held on to secure a narrow victory and bring Glentoran’s title defence to an end.
The result also confirmed Cliftonville Women as the 2026 Sports Direct Women’s Premiership champions with two rounds of fixtures remaining.
