Glentoran suffered their first defeat of the Sports Direct Premiership season on Saturday afternoon as Dungannon Swifts came from behind to win 3–1 at Stangmore Park.

Marcus Kane’s first-half header gave the Glens the lead at the break, but the match turned after Jordan Jenkins was sent off on the hour mark. The hosts capitalised through goals from Leo Alves, Junior Uzokwe and Adam Glenny to take all three points.

Dungannon edged the opening period with some early pressure, but it was Glentoran who struck first in the 21st minute. Danny Amos delivered a free-kick to the back post, Shane McEleney rose highest to nod the ball across goal and Marcus Kane met it perfectly to head into the top corner.

Dungannon created a few chances before the interval as they searched for an equaliser. Andrew Mills produced an excellent fingertip save to deny Sean McAllister after the striker latched onto a loose ball inside the box, while Leo Alves also went close with a long-range effort.

The Glens made a positive start to the second half and carved out a golden opportunity to double their advantage. Pat Hoban slipped a perfectly weighted pass in behind the Swifts’ back line for Jenkins, but his low strike was saved by Declan Dunne. Palmer then went close with a strike from the edge of the area as Glentoran pressed for a second goal.

However, the turning point came on 61 minutes when Jenkins, already booked, received a second yellow card for a high challenge on Steven Scott. From the resulting free-kick, Alves curled a superb strike over the wall and into the top corner to level the match. Minutes later, Devine was shown a red card on the touchline following protests to the officials.

The hosts pushed forward and, with nine minutes remaining, former Glens forward Junior Uzokwe turned home a header from close range to put the Swifts ahead. Two minutes from time, Adam Glenny met a corner at the near post to head past Mills and seal the win.

It proved a frustrating afternoon for the Glens. Attention now turns to cup action in midweek against Carrick Rangers in the Co Antrim Senior Shield, before a return to the BetMcLean Oval next Saturday to face Ballymena United in the Sports Direct Premiership.
