Glentoran Seconds remain top of the Premiership Development League following a 2–2 draw with Linfield Swifts in Monday night’s top-of-the-table fixture at Ashfield Boys’ High School.
The Glens entered the match on 39 points from 15 games, holding a five-point lead over Linfield with a game in hand.
The starting line-up included first-team squad member and academy graduate Charlie Lindsay, along with Cal Weatherup, who featured in the senior squad at the weekend. The Glens Seconds’ top scorer in the league James McClure led the attack.
The opening 45 minutes were a drab affair, with Linfield enjoying the better of the play. They were awarded a penalty on 25 minutes, but Milo Beimers, who has developed a reputation as a penalty-save specialist, kept the effort out to ensure the match remained goalless at the interval.
Glentoran were reduced to ten men less than two minutes into the second half when captain Ciaran Rogers-Duffy was sent off. Linfield capitalised shortly afterwards, taking the lead with a flicked header at the near post.
The game opened up significantly in the second half, producing an excellent contest with chances at both ends.
Cal Weatherup equalised with a well-taken finish before further opportunities came and went, with both Weatherup and Lindsay unable to convert from close range.
The Glens then moved 2–1 ahead when James McClure met Jude Johnson’s cross with a strong header, but Linfield later levelled the match at 2–2.
In the closing minutes, Johnson struck the post, but neither side was able to find a decisive winn
The result means Glentoran Seconds maintain their five-point advantage at the top of the Premiership Development League, still holding a game in hand over Linfield.
Next up for the Glens is a home fixture against Bangor Reserves on Monday 15th December 2025 at Clandeboye Park.
