Glentoran Seconds brought their outstanding NIFL Premiership Development League campaign to a fitting close with a commanding 4–0 victory over Glenavon Reserves at the BetMcLean Oval.
Already crowned champions heading into the final fixture, following last Friday night’s on-pitch trophy presentation, the Glens delivered another composed and clinical performance to underline their dominance across the season.
With the title secured and silverware in hand, the focus turned to finishing strongly and potentially breaking the 100-goal mark. After a slow and scrappy opening period, the hosts found their rhythm and never looked back.
The breakthrough arrived from a set piece, as Reece Bell’s pinpoint corner was met by captain Ciaran Rogers-Duffy, who powered home a thunderous header to open the scoring.
Bell was again the provider, delivering another excellent ball into the area, with Zak Magowan rising to head home from distance, a strike that brought up the team’s 100th goal of the league campaign.
The third goal followed as sustained pressure told. After Cal Weatherup saw an initial effort blocked, Magowan showed impressive footwork inside the area before being brought down.
Although James McClure’s penalty was saved, the striker reacted quickest to convert the rebound and extend the lead.
The fourth and final goal was a reflection of the team’s cohesion throughout the season. A well-worked move from the back saw Caolan Hardy drive forward from midfield before releasing Adam Dolan, who unselfishly squared for Weatherup to finish neatly into the bottom corner.
The final whistle confirmed a 4–0 victory and a perfect end to a title-winning campaign defined by consistency, attacking quality and defensive resilience.
