Glens Seconds remain top after draw

Glentoran Seconds remain top of the NIFL Premiership Development League following a 3–3 draw with Bangor Reserves on Monday night at Clandeboye Park.

The Glens went into the fixture five points clear of Linfield Swifts and were forced into changes from last week’s draw with the Blues, with Jack Watt stepping in for Milo Beimers in goal and Caolan Hardy replacing the suspended Ciaran Rogers-Duffy at the heart of the defence.

Jack Faloona captained the side in Rogers-Duffy’s absence following his dismissal in that fixture

The hosts took the lead inside five minutes to put Glentoran on the back foot early.

The Glens responded well and were level through Jude Johnson. Ryan Bailie’s positive play created the opening, finding James McClure, who squared the ball back to the edge of the box for Johnson to strike a composed finish into the far corner.

Johnson then gave Glentoran the lead from the penalty spot, confidently converting with a Panenka to make it 2–1.

The forward completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards, driving forward from distance before firing into the bottom corner from around 30 yards to put the Glens 3–1 ahead.

Bangor fought back in the latter stages and scored twice to ensure the points were shared.

The result means Glentoran Seconds remain top of the Premiership Development League, now three points clear of Linfield Swifts with a game in hand, having played 17 matches to Linfield’s 18.

Next up for the Glens is a league fixture against Ballymena United Reserves on Monday 22 December at Ashfield Boys’ School.
