Glentoran stepped up preparations for the 2025/26 campaign with a competitive internal fixture at the BetMcLean Oval on Saturday afternoon, as two Glentoran XI sides, managed by Paddy McCourt and Tim McCann, faced off in an entertaining encounter in aid of Air Ambulance Northern Ireland.
First Team Manager Declan Devine observed from the stands as his coaching staff took charge of two evenly matched sides in an open and high-tempo game, which saw McCourt’s XI run out 3–2 winners.
McCann’s side took the initiative early on. Nathaniel Ferris opened the scoring from close range following a cross from David Fisher, before Christie Pattisson doubled the advantage with a well-struck half-volley from the edge of the box.
McCourt’s team responded before the break. Patrick Hoban pulled one back from the penalty spot after Dylan Connolly was brought down by the trialist goalkeeper and Jordan Jenkins soon made it 2–2 with a calm finish from inside the area.
The decisive moment came in the second half, when Jenkins intercepted a loose backpass and squared for substitute Cal Weatherup to slot into an empty net and seal the win.
The match provided valuable minutes for the squad that included promising Academy player Archie Irvine and raised important funds for a life-saving cause.
