Glentoran Women made it five wins from five in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership with a convincing 3-1 victory over Derry City at the Blanchflower Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kim Turner’s side continued their impressive start to the campaign with another assured display, maintaining their unbeaten record and returning to the top of the league table.

The Glens made the perfect start after just eight minutes when Aimee Kerr curled a superb 25-yard free-kick beyond the Derry goalkeeper to open the scoring.

Glentoran continued to dominate possession and were rewarded with a second goal deep into first-half stoppage time. A dangerous cross from the right was spilled by the visiting goalkeeper, allowing captain Jess Foy to react quickest and fire home from close range to double the advantage.

Holding a deserved 2-0 lead at the interval, the Glens wasted little time extending their advantage after the restart.

Just 60 seconds into the second half, Mia Moore collected possession 30 yards from goal, cut inside onto her right foot and produced a stunning strike into the top corner to make it 3-0.

Derry City reduced the deficit on 61 minutes when Rachel McIntyre found the net, but the visitors were unable to build any sustained pressure as Glentoran remained comfortable in possession and controlled the closing stages.

The result sees the Glens continue their 100 per cent start to the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership season with another impressive performance on home soil.
