Glentoran produced a spirited second-half comeback to claim a 2–2 draw with Cliftonville at the BetMcLean Oval, with goals from David Fisher and James Singleton securing a valuable point after the visitors struck twice before the break.
The Glens began on the front foot, dominating early possession and forcing a series of corners as Jordan Stewart and Cameron Palmer probed through midfield.
Cliftonville struggled to advance up the pitch but took the lead on 36 minutes when Harry Wilson broke into the area and cut the ball back for Thomas Lavery to steer a composed finish beyond Andrew Mills.
Cliftonville doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time. Centre-back Odhran Casey carried the ball forward unchallenged and lifted a pass into the run of Joe Sheridan, whose effort crept in despite Mills getting a strong touch.
The Glens emerged for the second half with renewed intent. Joe Thomson had a close-range effort blocked before MJ Kamara rose well to power a header off the crossbar. Substitute Jordan Jenkins was denied moments later when Lavery scrambled his header off the line.
The pressure finally told on 72 minutes. Ryan Cooney’s driven delivery caused problems inside the area and Fisher reacted quickest to bundle the ball home at the near post to halve the deficit.
The Glens continued to control possession and territory, with Mills largely untroubled as Cliftonville were forced deep inside their own half.
The equaliser arrived with 11 minutes remaining when Cooney again provided the supply line, his superb cross met by Singleton, who guided an excellent header into the corner to level the contest.
Glentoran pushed for a winner and Thomson had a late opportunity when slipped through, but Cliftonville goalkeeper Nathan Gartside spread himself well to make the save.
The draw places Glentoran in fourth place in the Sports Direct Premiership on 31 points, with Declan Devine’s side next facing a crucial trip to Larne at Inver Park on Friday 12th December.
