Glentoran produced a gritty comeback against Portadown at The BetMcLean Oval to record a third successive win of the festive period.
Declan Devine’s men came into the game buoyed by victories over Coleraine and Linfield, which lifted them up to third place in the Sports Direct Premiership table.
But they found themselves a goal down on 27 minutes after Eamon Fyfe put Niall Currie’s men in front.
The Glens drew themselves level on 43 minutes thanks to a first goal for the club from MJ Kamson-Kamara and they made sure of the points on 57 minutes when Pat Hoban confidently fired home from the spot.
The visitors had the ball in the net inside seven minutes, but Fyfe’s effort was quickly ruled out for offside.
That stirred the Glens into action with Hoban having a goal-bound effort blocked away by a Portadown defender before Jordan Jenkins, who had set up his strike partner a minute earlier, pulled a shot wide of the target.
Lewis MacKinnon was then on hand to deny Danny Amos as the fullback unleashed a ferocious drive that had Aaron McCarey in the visitor’s goal worried before his centre back’s timely intervention.
Kamson-Kamara was in the right place at the right time to keep the Ports at bay on 22 minutes as he got himself in the way of a Ben Quinn effort after a scramble in front of the home goal.
Portadown weren’t to be denied however and edged in front five minutes later as Fyfe produced a composed low finish past Andrew Mills after Ben Wylie had sent him clear.
The hosts almost hit back straight away but Cameron Palmer’s effort was batted out by McCarey.
A surging run forward by Kamson-Kamara before the break saw things open for the defender, who pulled a shot narrowly wide of the goal.
With the half-time whistle imminent Glentoran got themselves back on level terms as that man Kamson-Kamara squeezed home a shot at the back post after Amos’ free kick was only half cleared.
The Glens turned the game around before the hour mark after McCarey brought Liam Burt down in the box with Hoban slotting home from the penalty spot.
As we moved into the final 20 minutes Hoban and Dylan Connolly combined to carve out an opening for Burt, but the midfielder couldn’t get his shot away in the box.
That proved to be the decisive moment of the second half as Glentoran secured another three points in the festive period.
