GCT assist with striker signing.

Thu, 29/08/2013 - 21:19

The signing of striker Aaron Boyd last week was completed with the help of the Glentoran Community Trust.

The GCT Chairman Jim Welsh explained some of the background to glentoran.com.  "Basically, the Glentoran Community Trust approached Eddie Patterson last season to see if there was any way we could help. We were acutely aware of the financial constraints he was under and wanted to see if there was anything we could do. At the end of July, prior to the new domestic season getting underway, we sat down for another chat and Eddie explained that he'd been keeping a watch on the Aaron Boyd situation for some time now. Although the player was available again he couldn't afford to offer him a professional contract as his budget for the 2013-14 season had virtually gone. He convinced us that Aaron would be a real asset to the current squad and asked if the GCT would be able to help financially if he was to offer him a professional contract. We are delighted that Glentoran have now secured Aaron’s services for the season and here’s hoping it’s a successful one for both him and the club."

In response, manager, Eddie Patterson said, “On behalf of myself and all the coaching staff I’d like to thank the Glentoran Community Trust for their help in securing Aaron’s signature; it is very much appreciated. Hopefully he will prove to be a great asset to the team.”
