Elliott is Player Of The Month for September

Sat, 30/09/2017 - 22:44

Elliott Morris – who on Monday night is expected to make his 660th first team appearance for the club – has been voted Glentoran Supporters’ Player of the Month for September.

Elliott won 27% of the supporters' vote in a month when his performances against Linfield, Ballymena and Coleraine (following his heroics at Mourneview at the end of August) again demonstrated that he remains among the top two keepers in the NIFL Premiership. The fact that this month no fewer than six players scored over 10% of the supporters’ vote is clear evidence of how well across the squad our good start to the season has spread.

On being told of his win, Elliott said: "I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. We’ve been playing well this last month and had some good results so it’s a pleasing achievement to have won this award at a time when so many good players have been in such good form. Thanks again for voting. I really appreciate it.”

Manager Gary Haveron said: "I've known Elliott since we were 15, played with him at nearly every level of junior international football and I still get the same feeling of confidence with him between the posts as I did then. He's a credit to himself in how well he looks after himself and has been fantastic for me since I took the reins.

His passion for the game and for our club shines throuhgh at all times and as an "elder statesman" of the team he knows the demands and the expectaions of players at Glentoran. His excellent interview in the Belfast Telegraph this week really showed how much he cares for this club and how much commitment he has for making it successful, even in his sixteenth season at Glentoran.

His leadership behind the scenes is invaluable in the dressing room and such is his dedication I can see no reason why Elliott shouldn't continue playing at his own high levels for at least another 3 or 4 years. He really is that good."

Runner-up this month was skipper Marcus Kane, who excelled both in midfield and at left back during the month, followed by Nathan Kerr who has quickly grown into his role of first choice right back. Also polling well were Robbie McDaid, August winner John McGuigan, Curtis Allen and Calum Birney. The fact that no fewer than six players all scored over 10% of the supporters’ vote is clear evidence of how well across the squad our good start to the season has spread.
