East Belfast Remembers Her Majesty

Tue, 13/09/2022 - 10:30

Glentoran Football Club was proud to be represented at a special service of thanksgiving in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at CS Lewis Square last night.

The club was represented by Club Captain Marcus Kane and Under 20s squad member Bailey Locke, who laid a commemorative wreath on behalf of the club and the Glentoran Family.

Reverend Mervyn Gibson (Westbourne Presbyterian Church) opened the service with a word of prayer, followed by a bagpipe lament, a poem reading, a special tribute to Her Majesty, and a moments silence followed by a rendition of “God Save The King.”

There was a wide cross section of the East Belfast community in attendance – political representatives, local businesses, schools, sporting groups, community groups, city councillors and political parties. It was a beautiful but very sombre event at which the people of East Belfast warmly and respectfully commemorated Her Majesty’s lifetime of loyal service.
