Diarmuid O'Carroll is new Head Coach of the Cup Winners

Wed, 27/02/2019 - 21:20

Glentoran FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Diarmuid O’Carroll as Head Coach of Glentoran Women FC and to warmly welcome him to the Oval..

Diarmuid joins us after a long playing career that started at Celtic, saw him capped by the Republic of Ireland at every level up to Under 21,  and effectively ended on an incredible high with four consecutive NIFL Premiership winner’s medals with Cliftonville and Crusaders. He was a long standing signing target for Glentoran during Eddie Patterson’s tenure as Manager.

He is a UEFA A License coach and his appointment is an incredible coup for the 2018 NI Challenge Cup Winners.

Diarmuid will be supported as Chief Coach by the experience of Gail Redmond as First Team Coach and Lee Wilson as Goalkeeper Coach. Billy Clarke remains as Glentoran WFC General Manager.

Billy Clarke said this evening: "Diarmuid will be a fabulous asset to us. He has a lot of top level experience as a player but also we will benefit from his experience of coaching Crusaders Strollers before going to the USA two years ago.To be honest, Diarmuid was the first name we thought of when we started looking for a new Head Coach and when I met him it was clearly obvious that he could bring a lot of extra value to us. Diarmuid has had a couple of pre season weeks with us and the girls have all loved his sessions. The mood in the camp is great ahead of the new season and we're all looking forward to seeing what Diarmuid produces, supported by Gail and Lee".

A full interview with Diarmuid will appear on this website within the next few days.
