Glentoran Football Club can confirm that forward David Fisher has completed a permanent transfer to Vietnamese V-League side Hanoi FC, subject to international clearance, for an undisclosed fee.

Fisher featured 14 times during the 2025/26 campaign for the Glens, scoring three goals in all competitions.

The 24-year-old departs The BetMcLean Oval having made 95 appearances in all competitions, scoring 25 goals, since joining the Club from AFC Wimbledon in September 2023.

Fisher established himself as a versatile attacking option across the front line during his time in East Belfast and played an important role in the Club’s County Antrim Shield success in 2024/25, helping Glentoran secure its first piece of silverware in five years.

Fisher will link up at Hanoi FC with manager Harry Kewell, the former Liverpool and Leeds United player and Australia international, alongside former Glentoran manager Warren Feeney, who is assistant manager, with the club currently seventh in the V-League.

Declan Devine, Glentoran  First Team Manager, said: “David has been an excellent professional throughout his time at Glentoran. He gave everything whenever he was called upon and played his part in delivering success for this Club, particularly in our County Antrim Shield win.

“This move represents a great opportunity for David, not just from a football perspective but also as a life experience. He came to me on a number of occasions to discuss his playing time and made it clear that he wanted the opportunity to play more regularly and I respected that. I didn’t want to stand in his way.

“It’s a move that works well for both David and the Club. He’s a great lad and a very good player on his day and we wish him every success as he takes on this next chapter in his career.”

Speaking about his depature from The BetMcLean Oval, David Fisher said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time at Glentoran. Winning the County Antrim Shield was a special moment for me and something I’ll always look back on with pride.

“This move is an exciting opportunity for me, both on and off the pitch. It gives me the chance to experience a new culture, learn a new language and continue to develop as both a person and a player and it feels like the right time in my career to take on that challenge.

I want to thank the manager, the staff and my teammates for their support and the fans have been incredible to me from the first day. Glentoran will always mean so much to me and I’ll be a supporter of the Club for life.”

Fisher becomes Glentoran’s fourth departure of the January transfer window, following Jonny Russell’s permanent move to EFL League Two side Crawley Town for an undisclosed fee.

The window has also seen attacking midfielder Charlie Lindsay and forward Nathaniel Ferris join Glenavon on loan until the end of the season, while young defender Callan Farley has extended his loan spell with NIFL Championship side Warrenpoint Town until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Declan Devine has continued to strengthen the squad, completing the signing of versatile attacking midfielder Jack Malone from Glenavon for an undisclosed fee, alongside the free-transfer arrival of 23-year-old former Dungannon Swifts forward Ben Gallagher following a spell in Australia.

Paul Millar, Glentoran Sporting Director, said:Jonny Russell’s move to the English Football League, alongside David’s transfer to Hanoi FC and previous player moves such as Conor McMenamin to St Mirren and Terry Devlin to Portsmouth, reflects the standards, ambition and profile of this football club.”

“Our priority is to build squads that are competitive and capable of challenging for trophies by creating a professional culture that allows players to perform at their best and progress in their careers.

“The January transfer window has been positive so far and has strengthened us in key areas. We believe we are now in a much stronger position to push on during the remainder of the season, with the potential for further activity as we continue building towards our long-term objectives.”

Glentoran Football Club would like to thank David for his commitment and contribution during his time at The BetMcLean Oval and wish him every success as he begins the next chapter of his career.
