Danske Bank Women’s Premiership. Cliftonville 3 v 3 Glentoran

Thu, 11/05/2017 - 22:41

Wednesday 10th May saw Glentoran BU travel to Solitude to face Cliftonville Ladies.

Without a doubt the away team  started better with Jessica Foy linking up well with Rachel Rogan in the opening minutes only to be ruled offside.  Glentoran continued to press Cliftonville with Kelly Bailie coming close only to be denied by the crossbar. With the away side creating numerous chances it was against the run of play when the home side took the lead through Billie Simpson just after the half hour mark.  Cliftonville nearly doubled the lead within one minute after a disheartened Glentoran mix up left the home side through on goal, only for Kelly Bailie clearing it off the line.  Glentoran finished the match how they started with an equalising goal coming from Caragh Milligan after a Nadene Caldwell corner.

HT 1-1

Milligan doubled her tally within one minute of the restart with a superb strike giving Glentoran the lead for the first time in the game.  The first substitute of the game welcomed back Lauren Wade who replaced Rebecca McKenna on the left wing and it wasn’t long until she started causing trouble for the Reds, linking up with Samantha Kelly only to be caught by the offside flag.  Bailie was replaced by Ali McMaster on the 65th minute and it wasn’t long before the substitute's impact was felt as she increased Glentoran’s lead to make it 1-3. Cliftonville substitute Emma McAleese made it 2-3. With the 3 points looking secure deep into injury time, the home side equalised in injury time to make it 3-3.  A disappointing end to what had been a generally strong performance.
