Glentoran warmed up for Sunday’s BetMcLean Cup final with a comfortable 4-0 win at Bangor to cut the gap on Irish Premiership leaders Larne to just two points.

Ross Clarke’s first goals for the club put the visitors two goals to the good at the break before second half strikes from James Singleton and Pat Hoban completed a good night’s work for the Glens.

Declan Devine made three changes to the side which lost to Bangor in the Irish Cup on Friday night with the suspended MJ Kamara-Kamson joining Jordan Stewart and Aaron McEneff in dropping out of the starting XI with Daniel Larmour, James Singleton and Josh Daniels all starting.

Daniels carved out the first opportunity inside five minutes as his clever pass sent Ross Clarke away, but the winger’s cutback was cut out by the home defence.

The home side responded three minutes later as Ben Arthurs teed up Ben Cushnie, but he fired over when well placed.

The visitors edged in front in the 19th minute as Clarke applied the finishing touch at the near post to guide Cammy Palmer’s cross past Gareth Deane.

Clarke doubled his and Glentoran’s tally seven minutes later as he finished off Singleton’s low cross.

Bangor went close to reducing the arrears on 34 minutes when Iestyn Hughes found himself in on goal but he could only find the side netting.

As we moved towards half-time Clarke had an opportunity to complete his hat-trick, but he hit his volley into the ground allowing Deane to gather.

At the other end Cushnie got in behind the Glens defence but poked his effort wide of the goal.

Glentoran kept pushing for a third after the restart with Palmer letting fly from distance but his effort sailed over the Bangor goal.

The hosts were wanting a penalty on 52 minutes as Hughes tangled with Danny Amos in the box but referee Declan Hassan was unmoved.

Bangor went close again on 62 minutes as Michael Morgan latched onto a through ball, lobbing Mills as the keeper advanced, but his shot clipped the crossbar.

Within two minutes the Glens all but wrapped up the points as Singleton added a third with a composed finish following a long throw into the home penalty area.

The hosts kept plugging away and carved out another good opening on 72 minutes as Tiarnan Mulvenna was picked out at the back post, but he screwed his shot wide.

A mistake in the Bangor defence allowed Hoban to steal in and add a fourth with 14 minutes to go.

The hosts almost offered up a fifth before the final whistle following a miscued clearance by Deane, but the keeper redeemed himself as beating away Ben Gallagher’s shot.
