Glentoran FC today officially announce the completion of teenage striker George Feeney’s much anticipated move to Tottenham Hotspur FC.
The top Premier League club has formally agreed a deal and signed the 16-year-old striker sensation, who has already moved to London.
Spurs beat multiple Premier League clubs in the race to sign the 16-year-old from East Belfast side Glentoran FC.
The centre forward is the son of former Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney who also managed the Glens. George’s grandfather Warren Feeney Snr also played for the historic Belfast club in the 1970s.
Since making his first team debut as a 15-year-old last September he has earned rave reviews following his first team appearances for Glentoran.
George scored one goal in his ten appearances for Glentoran FC after breaking into the first team last season. The Premier League’s elite clubs have kept a close eye on George’s progress since he joined Glentoran’s highly successful academy when he was 12 years old.
A Glentoran FC spokesperson said: “George is an exceptionally talented centre forward and we are immensely proud he has made the move to Tottenham.
“When George joined the Glentoran Academy at the age of 12 he was always one the most creative and skilful players amongst his peers. He quickly became noticed and successfully stepped up to the senior side because of his incredible skill on the ball and physical abilities.
“The family of Glentoran fans, players, staff and friends wish him George all the best as he takes his next steps challenging for a place in the Premier League, the world’s greatest.
“We will miss you George, we know you can do it!”
Also our 16-year-old left back Darragh McCann also moved today as he signed for newly promoted Premiership club Ipswich Town.
Darragh has been with the Glentoran Academy since he was 10 years old and is a Northern Ireland U16 international player. He has signed a three-year deal with Ipswich and will go into the U18s squad for the season ahead.
Darragh, a free-kick expert who has also played in midfield, was spotted by Town playing for his country early last season.
Best wishes for a great career for club and country Darragh, We’re all proud of you.
