Another milestone for the Glentoran Academy

Fri, 22/11/2013 - 12:16

Our highly successful Youth Academy continues to go from strength to strength with the exciting news that our all-conquering Under 13 side have qualified for Europe!

The 2001 born lads will travel to Berlin in July at the request of the Northern Ireland Boys' FA and UEFA to compete in a 54 UEFA Nations Tournament.

Having qualified as Northern Ireland representatives at the tournament on the back of their domestic dominance, the wee Glens will become the first youth team at Glentoran to enter European competition proper.

All 54 UEFA affiliated nations will be represented by their top club at the 2001 age group, so it will be very exciting for the boys to see who they draw in their group.

The current Foyle Cup, All-Ireland Cup, and Irish Cup Treble Winners presently sit top of National League A and are very much a team that our club can be proud of.

There are sure to be a few goose bumps as the boys stand for the National Anthem before their opening game.

They begin preparations for the big tournament with an away friendly to Manchester City in February. Exciting times ahead for the kids, so please do show your support as Glenmen and help them in any way you can.

Although the 5 night stay in Berlin is all expenses paid, the trip will still require some fundraising in order to meet expensive travel costs.

Any fans or supporters' clubs who can financially help the boys in their attempts to conquer Europe, no matter how big or small, please contact Academy Director Conor Marlin or Team Manager Stephen Lowry on the numbers below.
