Another milestone for Elliott

Fri, 03/01/2014 - 10:43

After a memorable 2013 Elliott Morris reached yet another milestone in his Glentoran career with his 200th clean sheet in the 1-0 win against Dungannon Swifts on New Year’s Day.

Elliott signed for the Glens in the summer of 2002 from West Bromwich Albion.  Contrary to popular belief he did not make his debut against Wisla Krakow, but in a 4-1 League win against Institute at the Oval on 10th August 2002.  His first clean sheet came two weeks later in another League win at the Oval, this time 4-0 against Crusaders.  Since then he has been virtually ever present between the posts and has won three League Championships, two Irish Cups, four League Cups and three County Antrim Shields.  Last season, of course, he lifted the Irish Cup as newly appointed club captain.

In August of this season he made his 500th appearance in a League Cup tie at Ballyclare and on 7th December in the 3-0 win against Warrenpoint Town at the Oval he made his 518th appearance, thus surpassing Alan Paterson’s record for a Glentoran goalkeeper.  He is now in 7th place in the all time appearances list, just two short of Barney Bowers.

On New Year’s Day at Dungannon Elliott came within inches of scoring his first goal for the Glens.  Perhaps that will soon be the next milestone that he can tick off the list!
