On Friday evening Glentoran Women have another Sports Direct Women’s Premiership home match. This time v Larne at Ashfield on Friday evening (Kick Off 7.45pm)
The Glens remain 6 points clear at the top of the Sports Direct Premiership, ahead of Cliftonville (who have a game in hand) and Sion Swifts and are the league’s only unbeaten team so far, having dropped just 2 points from a possible 33. Last week a 5-0-win v Mid Ulster Ladies continued our strong run, boosted by a Joely Andrews hat trick and goals from top scorer Kerry Beattie and 18-year-old midfielder Megan Neill.
We have played Larne twice this season, both times at Inver Park. In May we had a 7-0 league win with doubles from Kerry Beattie, Nadene Caldwell and the departed Caragh Hamilton plus one from Joely Andrews. Two weeks ago we faced them in the Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup, progressing 4-0 to the next round with goals this time from Demi Vance (2), Chloe McCarron and Joely Andrews.
Larne currently sit seventh in the ten-team table, having improved from a disastrous start to record wins over Derry City, Mid Ulster and Lisburn, and a draw with Ballymena United.
Kick Off at Ashfield is at 7.45pm.
