Danny Amos says Glentoran are determined to go from strength to strength as the league leaders return to Sports Direct Premiership action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Stangmore Park to face Dungannon Swifts (Kick-off: 3.00 pm).
The in-form left-back has been one of the Glens’ most consistent performers this season and is targeting his first win at the Tyrone venue as Declan Devine’s side look to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Glentoran have recorded six wins from eight league fixtures so far in 2025/26, with recent postponements against Larne and Cliftonville briefly halting their rhythm.
On Tuesday night, they advanced to the Second Round of the BetMcLean Cup thanks to a hard-fought 1–0 victory away to Institute, a result secured by Jordan Jenkins’ close-range finish following a teasing Danny Amos corner.
Amos has been one of Glentoran’s standout performers this term, combining defensive reliability with his trademark attacking drive down the left.
As the 25-year-old prepares for the weekend’s trip to Tyrone, he admits he is determined to record his first win at Stangmore Park and help Glentoran continue their unbeaten start to the season.
Danny Amos said: “Stangmore Park was a difficult venue for us last season as we didn’t get a win there, so that’s something I’m determined to put right this weekend. It’s a ground that’s tight, the crowd are close to the pitch and Dungannon always make it difficult for you to play.
“They know how to play football and if you’re not switched on, they have the quality to hurt you. They’re Irish Cup champions for a reason and we know we’ll need to be at our best to get a result. If we’re even slightly off it, we’ll come away with nothing. That’s the reality of this league and that’s why our standards have to stay high every single game.
“We’ve made a strong start to the season, we’re unbeaten and sitting top of the table, but every player in this dressing room knows there’s still another level or two for us to reach. We’re winning games, picking up points and yet we all feel there’s more in the tank. That says a lot about the standards we’ve set and the hunger we have to keep improving.
“The message from the manager has been clear: never stand still, never be satisfied and always strive to get better. That mentality is showing in our performances, in the intensity of our training and in the togetherness within the squad.
“The focus now is on building momentum and continuing to go from strength to strength, not just over the next few weeks but across the whole season. We want to show that Glentoran are a team capable of sustaining success and delivering for our supporters every time we step onto the pitch.”
The former Grimsby Town and Doncaster Rovers defender says he is loving life in East Belfast and feels fully at home at the club and in the city. Since arriving at The BetMcLean Oval in 2024, Amos has become a firm fans’ favourite.
He is admired for his superb left foot, tireless work rate in both defence and attack and his ability to deliver with real precision from free-kicks and corners. His quality on the ball, combined with his relentless energy off it, has firmly established him as a key figure in Declan Devine’s squad.
Danny said: “From day one I’ve felt the love from the fans. It’s a special club and I’m really proud to be part of it. Declan and his coaching staff have been brilliant with me. They’ve trusted me, given me confidence and a clear role and that’s helped me develop my game and grow as a player. I’ve played at a few clubs, but the sense of belonging here is something different. You feel it in the stands, in the community and in the dressing room every single day.
“We’ve got a great mix in the squad. There are top professionals who set the standard, experienced leaders who drive the culture and young lads desperate to make their mark. That blend creates a healthy pressure to perform because nobody takes their place for granted.
“If we can keep pushing together, stay focused and keep improving every week, there’s no reason we can’t turn a good start into a great season. We want to build something lasting, not just for ourselves but for the supporters who back us home and away. That’s what drives us every time we step onto the pitch.”
Saturday’s hosts Dungannon Swifts have had a mixed start to the campaign. Rodney McAree’s side, the reigning Irish Cup holders, currently sit seventh in the Premiership with four wins and six defeats from their opening ten games.
Their victories have included impressive results against Cliftonville, Ballymena United, Larne and Glenavon, while they also began the season on a high by lifting the Charity Shield after a penalty shootout win over Linfield.
Glentoran know all too well the challenge that awaits in Tyrone. Last season’s trips to Stangmore Park ended in narrow defeats, a 1–0 loss in September and a 3–2 reverse in April, but with confidence high and competition for places intensifying, Danny Amos believes the Glens are in the perfect position to push on.
Amos added: “The mood in the group is excellent. Everyone’s focused, training has been top class and the standards are really high. We know how important consistency is if you want to challenge at the top end of the table and that means working hard for every single point. Nothing is handed to you in this league. You have to earn it every time you step onto the pitch and this weekend will be no different against a top side.
“We’re proud of the start we’ve made, but nobody in this dressing room is getting carried away. We know we have to keep battling, keep pushing and keep raising our levels if we want to stay where we are.
“The fans have been incredible home and away and we want to reward that support with another big performance. There’s a real determination in the dressing room to keep improving, keep winning and show that this Glentoran team is still only getting started.”
