Amos stunner seals late win for Glens

Danny Amos was the hero at the BetMcLean Oval this afternoon, as the defender struck a stunning 90th-minute goal to seal a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts in the Sports Direct Premiership.
The goal came in the final moments of a tightly contested match, but the Glens will care little, as the win moves them four points clear of the Swifts in second place with two games in hand.
The first meaningful chance of the game came in the 14th minute when Johnny Russell headed over from a dangerous Glentoran free-kick when he should have done better.
Ten-minutes later, the in-form Jordan Jenkins had a superb chance to put the home side ahead. Some neat teamwork sent the forward through on-goal, but his left-footed strike zipped just wide of the right-hand upright.
As the Glens continued to dominate possession, Cameron Palmer went close with his right foot from just outside the box moments before half-time, but Declan Dunne in the Swifts’ goal was equal to the task.
Half-Time: Glentoran 0 – 0 Dungannon Swifts

As the second-half commenced, Glentoran had a wake-up call when Dungannon could have taken the lead.
Andrew Mitchell looked well-placed to slide the ball into the path of John McGovern for a simple tap-in, but he stumbled over the ball at the crucial moment and the chance went begging.
Christie Pattisson then went close for Declan Devine’s men on 65 minutes, but his effort flashed just wide of Dunne’s goal as the Glens’ pushed for a winner.
As the game entered the final moments, it looked as if both sides would be leaving with a point apiece. That was until Amos produced his piece of magic with an unstoppable strike.
After Dungannon failed to deal with the ball inside their own area, it fell kindly to the Glentoran left-back 25-yards out, and he rifled a first-time effort into the top corner, bring the BetMcLean Oval to its feet.
Full-Time: Glentoran 1 – 0 Dungannon Swifts
