Johnny Jamison joined Glentoran in 1970 and quickly established himself as one of the most creative and entertaining players ever to grace The Oval. A gifted midfielder with flair, balance and an instinct for the spectacular, he became the heartbeat of the team throughout the 1970s and a firm favourite among supporters.
Across a decade of excellence, Jameson made 412 appearances and scored 134 goals, an outstanding record for a midfielder. He won two league titles, an Irish Cup, and several other domestic honours, while his influence on European nights elevated his reputation further. Jamison remains Glentoran’s all-time leading goalscorer in European competition with five goals, including memorable strikes against Bergen and Ajax.
His performances captured the imagination of supporters and opponents alike, culminating in a Northern Ireland cap against Norway in 1975. With his trademark long hair, socks rolled down and effortless style, Jameson was an icon of his time. The bigger the stage, the better he played, never more so than in the epic European encounters with Juventus. Charismatic, skilful and fearless, Johnny Jamison’s name remains synonymous with Glentoran flair and creativity.
