Glentoran Homeless Appeal 2017

Mon, 25/12/2017 - 00:00

Due to the hard work of our selfless volunteers and the incredible generosity of Glentoran supporters, the Glentoran Christmas Homeless Appeal 2017 finished on December 21st again played its part in providing a better Christmas for some of the less fortunate in our city. This year the appeal had three strands: 1. Players, staff, volunteers and club directors visited the Stella Maris and Welcome Centre Hostels, bringing wrapped presents of gift sets and boxes of chocolates. 2. Representatives of the club worked alongside the volunteers of Haven Outreach at their static feeding station in Belfast and contributed a wide range of food for distribution to Belfast’s homeless population by Haven. 3. The Appeal team distributed 113 hampers across East Belfast to local people either alone or vulnerable over the Christmas period. This was done alongside local churches with the hampers filled with generous donations by Glentoran supporters. Each of these appeals made their own very real contribution to helping people who needed it this Christmas. A sincere thanks to everyone – volunteers, players, team management, staff, directors and in particular Jodie Killops who co-ordinated the appeal – who gave their time or contributed in any way.

Unfortunately after filming, Glentoran Football Club were made aware of the sudden passing of Darragh Kerr, who was in great spirits on Thursday evening when we visited.  Everyone at the club would like to offer our condolences to his friends and family at this time.
