Glentoran Christmas Appeal for the Homeless 2018

Sun, 09/09/2018 - 00:00

The most wonderful time of the year is fast approaching  ... less than 100 days to Christmas.

For most of us that’s the time of year we get to spend time with our families, exchange gifts, sit round a large table and eat our own body weight in Turkey and Christmas pudding!! But sadly that is not always the case for some families.

The Glentoran homeless appeal was originally set up so we could do our bit to help those less fortunate who live on the streets but in our five years it has become increasingly alarming that there are also so many people struggling who  may still have the roof above their head but in many cases only just. So again this year we want to reach out to as many people as we possibly can.

Each year we try to mix things up a bit and go that extra mile. We have been able to  do this because of the generosity of our fans whose kindness every year overwhelms us.

In addition to the traditional activity in support of Belfast’s homeless, pensioners who live on their own will be invited to The Oval for an afternoon tea and will receive a Christmas hamper. Vulnerable families with young children will be invited along to the club for a Christmas movie day with treats and a visit from our own Glentoran Santa.

Our homeless friends will receive a gift from the club when our players, coaching staff and volunteers make their traditional visits in December.

So when going shopping if you can please add something into your trolley and pop it into one of our collection points around The Oval, starting with our home match with Institute this Saturday.

Cash donations to buy meat vouchers and shortfall items will also be gratefully accepted.

Toys (brand new) or UNUSED toy gifts that can be wrapped and presented by our own Glentoran Santa.

Bless you all and many thanks.
